Cadillac CT6 Boasts Performance, Panache

Photo via Cadillac
Cadillac has continued to evolve the concept of the sport sedan. With the CT6, it has crafted a stately, plush, large sedan with engaging driving dynamics.

Aim the CT6’s sharp steering toward a curve and this big sedan seems to shrink in size, carving up twisty roads with confidence. And yet the supple and composed ride befits a flagship.

UK Rules Uber Drivers Entitled To Workers’ Rights

Photo via Flickr (freestocks.org)
A landmark UK ruling on the employment status of Uber drivers could have major knock-on effects for almost half a million nominally self-employed Brits.

On Oct. 28, a London employment tribunal ruled people who drive for Uber are workers, not self-employed — and entitled to benefits like sick pay and the minimum wage.

Uber has always maintained its drivers are independent contractors, and it’s just a tech platform connecting riders and drivers — so the ruling could have huge implications for it and its 40,000-strong UK driver fleet.

Street Team Stands United To Help Show Newbies

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Do you remember your first limo show? There’s no doubt you were at least a little nervous and slightly intimidated by all of the big industry names together in one place. That’s why LCT created the Street Team: A group of seasoned operators who post updates before, during, and after the show on social media, as well as serve as guides for attendees who might not know the best people to strike up a conversation with just yet.

This year, the Street Team is comprised of nine operators from nine different states who are ready to help introduce you to notable operators on the show floor. LCT interviewed a few of them to see why they decided to take on the task of being show ambassadors.

The Fearless Leader

Team Captain Julie Dotan, president of J & B Executive Transportation in Troy, Mich., is a Street Team regular who’s a seasoned Facebook user and loves helping others in the industry. “The team is a good resource for new attendees because it’s an easy way to know what’s going on at the show and we can help with introductions. The best part is you’ll already know what we look like,” she says. She’s friendly, easy to approach, and has 18 years of experience in the luxury ground transportation industry, so she’s happy to answer any questions attendees might have.
Julie Dotan, president of J & B Executive Transportation in Troy, Mich.

Dotan’s favorite, and what she believes is the most beneficial, part of LCT Shows is the numerous networking opportunities available. Another thing she’s looking forward to is great sessions (one of which she’s a presenter at) and the packed exhibit hall floor. A word of advice she’d like to give is make the best of your time at the show by getting to know as many people as possible. “You never know when you will need an affiliate to cover a job or for some guidance.”

The Ambitious Millennial

Briana Candeub, affiliate manager for Park Avenue Limousine in Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.
Briana Candeub, affiliate manager for Park Avenue Limousine in Feasterville-Trevose, Pa., is really enjoying working for her father’s company, but establishing herself as an individual in the industry is something very important to her. “I want to continue to show the industry what I have to offer and the ideas I have as a millennial. I thought joining the street team was a great way to get my name out there. I also love any chance to help and welcome new people into the industry as I was once in that same position and I know it can be extremely overwhelming,” she says.

Candeub thinks one of the things that makes the team a good resource for new attendees is the fact it features a mix of notable people from the industry who are all different ages and have different levels of experience. “You are bound to relate to someone on the team and can use them as a good mentoring tool for yourself and your business.”

What is she most looking forward to? “If my dad asks, tell him I said meeting new affiliates and bringing back business,” she jokes. “The real answer is seeing my limo peeps! So many people in this industry are not just affiliates; they’ve become friends who turned into family. I am so thankful for many of the relationships I have made and for the mentors I get to spend time with. Maybe soon enough someone will be able to look up to me the same way.”

Her father Alan started Park Avenue Limousine 30 years ago with one vehicle, and today the family oriented company has a mixed fleet of approximately 50 vehicles. “Our number one priority is service, service, service!,” she says. “A large amount of our in-house staff and chauffeurs have been with us for over 15 years and we are all proud to represent the Philadelphia area together. Establishing new local and worldwide relationships is extremely important to us, and any one of our staff members you see at a show is approachable and will welcome you with open arms.”

The Friendly Face

Sam Emam, vice president and client relations manager of Chauffeurs Limo Corp. in Kenilworth, N.J.
Sam Emam, vice president and client relations manager of Chauffeurs Limo Corp. in Kenilworth, N.J., joined the Street Team because he knows shows can be overwhelming when it seems like everyone already knows each other. “I wanted to be a friendly face to any newcomers or one person attendees to make them more comfortable attending the show just like Julie Dotan was with me when I first started networking.”

What makes the Street Team such a good resource? Emam believes it’s because everyone on the team brings a lot of knowledge about the industry from different parts of the world. “If you combined everyone’s contact list, we probably know everyone in the industry.” He would like attendees to know he runs a small, family-operated company with his father out of North Jersey that serves the entire NY Metropolitan Area, is super friendly, and says you can talk to him about anything.

He’s most excited about the educational aspects of the show. “You never stop learning in this industry. I’m also looking forward to deepening my existing relationships with my affiliates and meeting new ones from the northeast.” His advice for new attendees is to be friendly, smile, and be willing to get out of your comfort zone to meet people if you want to be successful.

The Attendee-Turned-Team Member

Jami Crouch, director of affiliate and client relations for Aadvanced Limousines in Indianapolis, Ind.
Jami Crouch, director of affiliate and client relations for Aadvanced Limousines in Indianapolis, Ind., is all about helping others learn new things and make new connections.

“When I was new, I knew the happy faces of the Street Team were there to help introduce you to people or just help you better understand how to get the most out of the shows. I believe the Street Team makes it easy for new attendees to have a ‘go to’ person if they need something without having to feel shy or embarrassed. I believe these people are highlighted as those you can count on to help guide the way,” she says.

According to Crouch, Aadvanced Limousines started with a single vehicle over a decade ago as a retail operation that focused on limousine service. The company has since mastered the customer experience which has allowed them to transition into becoming outstanding affiliates for your needs in Indianapolis.

“Having only been with Aadvanced Limousines for just over two and half years, I’m still fairly new to the industry. It has been an incredible experience, and I look forward to continuing to grow and learn! I would say to attendees always bring the best of you, lots of business cards, and do not miss an opportunity to say hello or meet someone new.”

The Affiliate Authority

Renee Ferraro, affiliate manager for ZBest Worldwide in Baltimore, Md.
With nine years of experience in the limo industry and a passion for her job, Renee Ferraro, affiliate manager for ZBest Worldwide in Baltimore, Md., enjoys posting on social media and being a part of the team to assist others. She believes the collective experience of the team members makes them a great resource for new attendees. “I enjoy helping others learn the tricks of the trade,” she says.

Ferraro is most looking forward to the new sessions, courses, and exhibit hall floor. “I can’t wait to see what’s new out there that will help our industry stay strong and keep us moving forward,” she explains. “And did I mention the networking and partying with some of the best affiliates around? That’s my favorite part of the show!”

She believes the best thing to do is to get to know as many affiliates as you can. “We are all just one big, happy family and here to discuss all our problems and solutions to help everyone.”

The Fabulous Floridian

Wendy Kleefisch, owner of Brevard Executive Limousine & Transportation in Indialantic, Fla.
Wendy Kleefisch, owner of Brevard Executive Limousine & Transportation in Indialantic, Fla., joined the Street Team to help her industry peers with any questions or concerns they may have regarding the LCT East show as well. “If it’s their first time, or twentieth time, I’m always there to help!,” she says.

Kleefisch mentions the shows are large, and people can easily get lost. “We are there to help get you in a session, to the show floor, or charity event. Whatever your needs are, we are here for you!” She’s most looking forward to meeting new people, and making some new corporate accounts at the same time. “It’s my favorite time of the year! See you soon, and please check out my Facebook and Twitter posts so we can connect at LCT East!”

Photo via Wikimedia Commons (Mr.choppers)
Today’s automobiles are all about efficiency, practicality, and streamlining. Millennials Taking The Business Travel World By Storm

Photo via PEXELS (unsplash.com)
Young employees are traveling for business more than ever before, according to a new report, and their buying habits are completely different than their older peers.

This may not be a surprise considering the rise of young employees in the U.S. workforce, but travel companies need to pay attention to how the behavior of millennials is totally different than that of older travelers.

On average, business travelers took 6.8 trips in the last year, a number which is expected to increase to 7.4 over the following year. Millennials took 7.4 business trips in the last year, compared to 6.4 for Gen Xers and 6.3 for baby boomers.

TNCs Get Green Light In Pennsylvania

Depite intensive lobbying efforts by members of the Philadelphia Regional Limousine Association, a bill legalizing TNCs statewide will be signed by the goivernor.
HARRISBURG, Pa.— Despite intensive lobbying efforts by members of the Philadelphia Regional Limousine Association (PRLA) and other groups, a bill legalizing TNCs in Pennsylvania was passed Oct. 24 by the legislature and will be signed by the Governor into law.

“Officially, the industry is very disappointed the bill is being signed considering its current form. We respect the legislative process, but feel our industry throughout the country must do a better job in communicating to our legislatures in the future pro TNC legislative initiatives,” commented Michael Barreto, Philadelphia Branch Manager for FlyteTyme. “With the floodgates opened in the state by the new regulations, they are empowering 20,000-plus TNC drivers to have little to no enforcement oversite leading to anyone going into business for themselves without having proper insurance and licensing,” he said.

Members of the PRLA were out in force in Harrisburg, the state capital Oct. 17, working legislatures to ensure the legislation was equitable with the private transportation industry.

“During our Walk on Harrisburg, the conversations we had with the House and Senate recognized the issues at hand,” said Anthony Onorata, president & CEO of Anthony Limousine in Allentown, Pa.

“Certainly we all agreed the TNCs are welcome as long as they follow the same rules and regulations we all do. However, it appears with a Senate vote 47-1, they choose public convenience over public safety, which is shocking and disappointing to me. The general public looks for our legislators to set the standard for safety, security, and yes, convenience. However, it doesn’t appear that happened in this case,” he added.

Services Set for Industry Veteran John M. Greene

John M. “Johnny” Greene, 1959-2016
John M. “Johnny” Greene, age 57, died Saturday, Oct. 22, after he was struck by an SUV while walking on a highway in Falmouth, Mass., near the Cape Cod Fairgrounds.

A long-time industry veteran, Greene, of Scituate, Mass., formerly of Quincy, was the founder and president of ETS International in Randolph, Mass. He was the former owner of Custom Transportation Services, Inc. (CTS Worldwide).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, Oct. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Keohane Funeral Home: 785 Hancock St., Quincy, Mass. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 a.m. His burial will be held at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

“Johnny was an icon in the industry,” said his brother, Peter Greene, ETS executive vice president of operations. “We worked together in the industry for going on 30 years. He was a fantastic brother, father, and friend to business associates. He would just light up a room when he walked in and was the life of the party. He was devoted to work, children, family, and our staff—many have been with us for more than 20 years. He will be sorely missed.”

Named among Inc. Magazine’s fastest growing companies, CTS was purchased in 1998 by Carey International, where Greene then served as an executive vice president. In 2003, he became a personal transportation industry consultant, working with several prominent international networks, assisting in mergers, acquisitions and business development. By 2006, Greene was ready to launch ETS International, with his brother, Peter, who serves as executive vice president of operations.

Johnny Green was a devoted Boston Bruins fan.
The Greene brothers are recipients of notable industry awards—including the LCT Operator of the Year Award in 2010 and 2014. “Johnny was a dear friend, former LCT columnist, and attended every single industry event. He will be greatly missed,” said LCT Publisher Sara Eastwood-Richardson.

According to his obituary: John’s loving family was the most important part of his life. He adored his three children and they, in turn, had the good grace to benefit from his larger-than-life personality. He was the owner/operator of ETS International Limousine Service and was very proud of the business he built. An active guy, he enjoyed boating, skiing, walks with his dog Jack, and attended countless Boston Bruins games.

Charity was close to his heart and he was always willing to help others, especially Cerebral Palsy of Mass. and The Lupus Foundation. He will be remembered for his positive attitude, upbeat energy, and his ability to light up a room. He was grateful for everything in his life which is summed up in a quote he used quite often: “You couldn’t give me three wishes, I wouldn’t know what to do with them.”

Beloved father of Ashley Greene of Boston, Cory Greene of Dorchester, and Kelsey Greene of Quincy. Former husband of Maureen Zerfoss of Scituate. Loving son of the late John J. Greene and Nancy J. (McQuade). Cherished brother of Kevin Greene of E. Bridgewater, Peter Greene of Whitman, Donna Hatfield of Braintree, and the late Stephen Greene. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA, 01701.

Charges Dropped Against Chauffeur In N.Y. Crash

Photo via NBC New York
All charges have been dropped against the chauffeur in the July 2015 crash that killed four women who were touring vineyards on Long Island to celebrate a birthday, a judge said Oct. 26.

Carlos Pino was indicted in March on four counts of criminally negligent homicide, four counts of assault, reckless driving and other crimes in the Cutchogue crash that killed Brittney Schulman, Lauren Baruch, Stephanie Belli and Amy Grabina. All of them were in their early 20s.

The four women were touring vineyards in a limousine to celebrate a friend’s birthday when Pino tried to make a U-turn on state Route 48 and was hit by a truck driven by an alleged drunk driver. Four other women, including a bride-to-be, and both drivers were hurt in the crash.

Arizona Operator Knows Quality Affiliations Take Time

Mary Beall, affiliate manager for The Driver Provider
PHOENIX, Ariz. — With 90 vehicles of all kinds in its fleet, The Driver Provider is always ready to aid its affiliates. Serving Arizona cities Phoenix, Tucson, Scottsdale, as well as Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jackson Hole, Wyo., the company’s Affiliate Manager Mary Beall says there are a few key rules to follow to maintain a stellar reputation as a go-to affiliate.

“Never over-promise, and always be honest if you’re going to be late,” she says. “Good relationships take time to build. Don’t expect to receive work from a company immediately after you start talking to them.” Many of the connections she has created with other businesses have been years in the making. She also says you’ll likely increase your chances of finding solid affiliates if you attend LCT Shows, make friends, and ask for their business…just don’t be pushy about it. “Above all, make sure you and your team are able to produce results before you start taking anyone’s work.”

LCT CONNECT PROFILE HERE

The Driver Provider staff understands how vital it is to ensure both their own clients and their affiliates’ are properly and promptly taken care of. “Our reservationists are friendly, understand everyone’s time is valuable, and recognize the importance of getting right back to them. We triple check inbound trips to make sure everything’s correct,” Beall says. “The dispatch team recognizes affiliates need to be informed and make status calls when necessary.”

Their chauffeurs are exceptionally knowledgeable of the cities they service, and understand how important it is to affiliates that they live up to their standards. “One of the biggest problems affiliates seem to have is getting invoices back promptly, and our team gets those back to them in 24 hours,” Beall mentions.

When the company was invited to sign up for LCT Connect, Beall figured with a name like LCT behind it, it would bring good affiliate connections. “It had the LCT stamp on it, and when you see that you know it’s quality. You’re able to look through it and see what kind of fleets these businesses have, which is great.”

If you’re looking for a quality affiliate, Beall assures, “Doing business with The Driver Provider is always your best bet. We promise to take great care of your clients every time.”
