LANJ Scores TNC Victory at Penn Station

PRINCETON, N.J. — An update on TNCs and airport regulations was the main topic covered during the quarterly lunch meeting of the Limousine Association of New Jersey (LANJ), held Wednesday, March 16 at the NJHA Conference and Event Center.

LANJ President Jason Sharenow told members the association is lobbying Newark Airport officials to regulate illegal Uber X drivers from working the airport. Although the airport police are not currently ticketing Uber x drivers, Sharenow said it appears officials are waiting for the state to eventually tackle the issue with regulatory enforcement.

However, Sharenow said LANJ did score a victory when the city of Elizabeth started to ticket Uber X drivers at Penn Station, the state’s busiest transit hub that serves the New York-New Jersey metro region.

“We’ll take that as a win for LANJ” said Sharenow. “Our efforts and the media attention about the negative effect of TNCs is bubbling to the surface where travel managers, legislators and passengers are scratching their heads and thinking twice about using TNCs,” he added.

Sharenow also urged New Jersey operators to participate in the National Limousine Association’s annual Day on The Hill event in Washington, DC, April 25-27. The event gives operators from around the country the opportunity to swarm Capitol Hill and discuss priority issues with their Congressional representatives.
