In A Troubled World, Remember Why People Travel

Photo via PEXELS user Unsplash
Many Americans are weighing the rewards of travel — especially travel abroad — against the risks. France, once the country of joie de vivre, is now seen as a hotbed of terrorism. Turkey, having finally emerged from years of shaming (thank you, “Midnight Express”) and shown itself to be one of the world’s most hospitable countries, is being rocked by the convulsions of the region. Concerns about the Zika virus are affecting tourism in much of Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean and even now Florida. Of course there’s Lichtenstein, but if security becomes the primary goal of travelers, it could get extremely crowded.

Yet safety is illusory (something every American schoolchild now knows), while the pleasures of travel are steadfastly real.
