Uber Drivers Say No To The Blind, Yes To Drugs

Uber Driver Refuses Ride To Blind People, Service Dog: Deputies said the driver broke state law and Uber policy when he refused to pick up the group from an International Drive restaurant. Simon Pierre Andre Nau, 60, of Kissimmee, tried to drive away when he showed up to get the group, Orange County deputies said. Former Uber Driver Arrested For Delivering Cocaine: Miami Police arrested a former Uber driver, July 5, for allegedly delivering narcotics in Coconut Grove. According to police, Coconut Grove units were conducting an anti-gun violence operation and received information of someone delivering drugs. Uber officials told 7News Munoz was not using Uber during the incident and was using his vehicle on personal time. 7News article here

Uber Driver Fired After Charged With Sexual Assault Of Rider: Junior Clarke, 31, of Lawrence, was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over, assault and battery, and accosting/annoying a person of the opposite sex. State Police said the 25-year-old woman requested an Uber to pick her up at a friend’s house just before 5 a.m. July 2. She told police she had never used the ride-sharing service before, and said Clarke told her to sit up front with him. South Africa Uber Drivers Unionize: Having previously faced protests by taxi associations in various African cities in which it operates, Uber is now facing resistance from its own drivers. Around 500 of the 4,000 Uber drivers in South Africa have joined the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) with a view to possibly initiate legal action against Uber, Zanele Sabela, the union’s spokesperson says. The drivers have requested the union’s assistance, she says, “as they are unhappy with their working conditions.” Quartz article here
