Intercity Buses, Motorcoaches On Heightened Holiday Alert

Following steps of other major public transit and transportation agencies across the U.S., intercity and motorcoach carriers are stepping up security procedures in response to the Nov. 13 attacks that killed at least 132 people in Paris. The incidents heightened fears of such an attack on U.S. soil, though authorities say there is no specific or credible threat.

Peter Pantuso, president of the American Bus Association, which has 4,000 members including motorcoach operators, hotels and other vacation destinations, said the push to follow extra safety practices should reassure travelers.

“It is no different than post-911 and no different than practices that most of the industry has been following for years,” he said. “Really just to be vigilant, be alert and be aware of your surroundings. This is a reminder to everybody in the world we live in that they’ve got to be aware.”
