BMW’s World Of Connected Cars

As you walk into your kitchen and turn on your coffee machine, that’s the cue your car has been waiting for to turn itself on and begin to warm up. Time to go: With a swipe on your touch-enabled car key, the vehicle detaches from its charging unit, pulls out of the garage and up to your front door. It’s already calculated the best route to your first appointment, taking into account traffic and weather.

While driving, the car detects other vehicles on the roadway and communicates with them, staying the perfect distance away for safety and efficiency. Each passing car relays its coordinates, which your car analyzes to calculate the threat of a crash potential. On uphill climbs the car has identified in its three-dimensional topographical navigation system, the car devotes additional electric power to the engine to help conserve gasoline. At the crest of the hill, the battery power turns off so that it’s ready to regenerate during braking on the downhill descent.

This is the future vision outlined by auto manufacturers such as BMW. It’s a world of connected cars, homes and gadgets and it’s a vision of the Internet of Things in the auto industry. But making that dream a reality will take continued innovation. Everything from cloud-based platforms integrating systems together to new applications being built to power the systems will need to be developed.

Firm Purchases One Hundred Mercedes E-Class Sedans

The operator has invested £3.2m million to grow its fleet in response to a 15% jump in executive car bookings over the last year. The company will add 100 new Mercedes Benz E-Class saloons to its existing fleet, which will make it the UK’s largest fleet of executive cars.

This investment will significantly increase the number of executive vehicles the company can offer to its clients. Addison Lee currently services 70% of the London FTSE 100 and will be putting the first batch of its executive fleet on the road this week.

The new Mercedes saloon is more fuel efficient than similar models, coupled with impressive refinements for the passengers and drivers alike including a new body shape that makes the vehicle incredibly quiet. The Mercedes E-Class is powered by new Euro 6 low emissions standard engines.

Aluminum, Advanced Laser Joining Lightens CT6

Aluminum-rolled products provider and recycler Novelis reports its aluminum is used in the 2016 Cadillac CT6 vehicle’s body, which is produced using advanced laser joining techniques.

The Cadillac CT6 features a body made of 62% aluminum. Through the use of aluminum and advanced joining techniques, Cadillac has achieved significant weight savings, making the full-size Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan comparable in weight to the smaller midsize Cadillac CTS sedan. When compared to a similar size vehicle using predominantly high-strength steel, the CT6 is approximately 220lbs lighter.
