ABA Members Lobby Congress During Annual Fly-In Event

<p>ABA Fly-In attendees gather on Capitol Hill (ABA photo)</p>WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dozens of ABA members from the motorcoach, tour and travel industry convened in Washington, D.C. May 3-4 at ABA’s 2017 Fly-In to make its collective voice heard on a variety of priority issues.

These efforts help ensure elected officials understand the economic contributions of industry and the issues members face.

In today’s political landscape, telling your story to lawmakers is more important than ever, especially given the attention on issues critical to the motorcoach, tour and travel industry. While ABA staff works with lawmakers in Washington daily, the effect of meeting lawmakers face-to-face cannot be understated.

Members from all over the U.S. and Canada blanketed Capitol Hill, meeting with Senators, House members and staff, focusing on five priority issues: Intercity Bus Security Grant Program, Lease & Interchange final rule, infrastructure legislation, tax reform, and travel ban executive orders.

The 2017 Fly-In featured presentations by a number of influential lawmakers who have helped the industry. Fly-In attendees heard from Highways & Transit Subcommittee Chairman Sam Graves (R-Mo.), Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), and Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.)

On Wednesday, ABA’s BusPAC hosted a reception at Carmine’s in downtown Washington, DC. New Transportation & Infrastructure Committee member Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) dropped by the event to address the House’s legislative agenda, take questions and learn more about the motorcoach, travel and tourism industry.
