2017 Lincoln Continental Offers Sophisticated Rear Cabin

The new 2017 Lincoln Continental combines upscale looks with a first-class rear cabin. (Photos by Tom Halligan/LCT)
Since its debut on Feb. 29, 2016 at the International LCT Show in Las Vegas, the new Lincoln Continental livery version has operators lining up to add the new lux sedan to their fleets.

In addition to its striking looks, amenities, and reasonable price, what sets the Lincoln Continental apart from competitors is what matters most to passengers — a roomy rear cabin that combines comfort, luxury, and technology typical for high-end chauffeured transportation.

So let’s look where it matters most: The rear cabin. During a recent test drive of the new Continental, courtesy of Chris Burns, sales and leasing consultant for the Fred Beans family of dealerships, headquartered in Doylestown, Pa,, the sedan delivered on its pre-release hype to offer the industry a vehicle to replace the beloved Town Car Executive L as its go-to sedan.

The test vehicle was a 2017 Continental AWD livery version with a 6-speed select shift, 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 305 horses. With just the right amount of chrome accents, the exterior “Black Velvet” color marries well with the ebony vinyl/ perforated luxury leather interior, creating a sophisticated look and feel.

No doubt chauffeurs will have to give passengers a quick tutorial to take advantage of the rear cabin comfort controls and amenities, especially the power rear-seat recliner, and a control to move the passenger seat forward — a perfect combination to stretch out after a long ride in coach. The chauffeur also can control the passenger seat to adjust the front/back position for long legs.

The rear-seat armrest console features a four-inch display screen and controls for climate, audio, and the rear window power sunshade. Passengers can manually adjust the sunshades on the rear door windows. There are also adjustable cup holders and two smart charging USB ports.

The livery package also includes technology with the following: Auto high beams, auto-dimming rear view mirror, BLIS (Blind Sport Information System), lane departure warning, rain-sensing wipers, and navigation system (voice activated).

In addition, safety devices include a rear view camera, forward and reverse sensing system adaptive steering, and many other passenger and driver safety features. Fuel mileage is estimated at a combined city/highway 19 mpg (16 city/24 hwy).

The Continental tested base price is $46,560. Total price including options plus destination/delivery charges came to $50,760. Warranty is 4-year / 50,000 miles / 6-year / 70,000 miles powertrain warranty. Check with your dealer for prices and other optional equipment.
