Above All/Boston Car Service Buys Small Operation

Above All Transportation/Boston Car Service owners Brett Barenholtz and Kevin Cronin (LCT file photo)
BOSTON — Above All Transportation / Boston Car Service, which merged in June 2015 to form one of the largest chauffeured operations in Boston, closed a deal Feb. 8 to acquire Above The Clouds Limo & Transportation.

Terms of the non-brokered, non-stock asset sale were not disclosed. Fleet vehicles were not part of the deal.

Above The Clouds, based in Pembroke, Mass. about 30 miles south of Boston, will enable Above All/Boston Car to expand its New England footprint. The five-vehicle operation brings in clients from the South Shore and Cape Cod regions.

“We’re moving everything they did into our operations,” said Brett Barenholtz, co-owner of Canton-based Above All/Boston Car. “We will continue with the website and redo it, with the site and phone lines operating as that brand at first. The long term plan is for the company to get absorbed into Boston Car.”

The owner of Above The Clouds, who had bought the 20-year-old company in 2012, decided to sell because he wanted to focus on his other business interests, Barenholtz said. The two companies had done business together as local affiliates. “He knew we were looking to grow.” Five Above The Clouds chauffeurs have joined the combined operations.

The company has a 50/50 blend of retail and corporate business. With the acquisition, Above All Transportation/Boston Car Service client ratio will breakdown to about 85% corporate and 15% leisure/retail, with a fleet of more than 75 vehicles. Estimated annual revenues were not disclosed.

“We’re happy to do this,” Barenholtz said. “We’re looking to grow in different ways through sales and acquisitions, so there could possibly be more.”

Above All Transportation was founded in 1988 by owner Kevin Cronin, now co-owner of the combined companies, and Barenholtz started Boston Car Service in 1997.
