New Jersey Senate Holds Up TNC Bill Over Fingerprinting Issue

TRENTON, N.J. — A Senate bill that would regulate app-based transportation network companies (TNCs) in New Jersey hit a speed bump this week after several lawmakers objected to the firms’ resistance to fingerprinting their drivers.

Representatives of New Jersey-based taxi and limousine services have demanded fingerprints are part of the background search, just as they are for their drivers.

Jason Sharenow, president of the Limousine Association of New Jersey, welcomed the delay of the bill. Sharenow noted Uber has agreed to fingerprint background checks in New York City. “These are sensible regulations that provide much needed passenger safety protection,” he said.
