A few decades ago, the Suburban by Chevrolet and GMC was considered to be a definite statement of wealth and an affluent (if slightly homely) lifestyle. That’s why it was fondly called the “Texas Cadillac.”
Then Lincoln raised the ante and launched the Navigator, forcing GM to react. In retaliation, the “Texas Cadillac” became an actual one – the Escalade.
