Chicago’s crackdown on party busses is likely to result in a lawsuit, according to one operator.
Chicago Cloud 9 Limo is among the 17 operators of party buses singled out by the city’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection as “operating illegally.”
On Friday, Cloud 9 Limo’s owner, Dan Cosma, told LCT he and several other operators who he contends were wrongly accused plan to meet with a lawyer today for a possible class action against the city of Chicago. “The city failed to inform every one of these changes,” Cosma told LCT. “They’ve done some updates in the ordinance and posted that on the website but the wording is vague. Anyone can interpret in their own way. They did it in a way that benefits them and allows them to write a lot of tickets. They’re just leaving everyone up in the air confused about what they want us to do or change. I went to the city every day [last] week after the [news] reports came out, trying to reason with them and get them to somehow reconsider the names on that list. They need to figure out who actually is doing something illegal and who follows the rules. Two of the companies on the list don’t even exist.”
