In this file shot from July 2013, Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, (L) meets with ABA officials Clyde Hart, Daniel Hoff, Greg Cohen, Bob Schwarz and Peter Pantuso.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Bus Association (ABA) will hold its first annual Capitol Hill Fly-In on May 4 to provide ABA members an opportunity to meet with their elected legislative officials and staff and discuss important issues facing the motorcoach, travel and tourism industries.

“The Fly-In, held during National Travel and Tourism Week, presents a key opportunity for ABA members to meet personally with their elected representatives and staff about their businesses, providing a chance to explain the impact our industries have on local and national economies,” said ABA President and CEO Peter J. Pantuso. “As Congress considers legislation that may influence how their business will be regulated, it’s critical our members’ voices be heard.”

ABA has been helping its membership in coordinating pre-arranged appointments with their legislators and staff, and more than 150 meetings are scheduled for the day. The event will take place in tandem with ABA’s Spring 2016 Board of Directors meeting.

The Fly-In will kick-off with Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-Washington, D.C., addressing ABA members during a morning briefing session. Then, following an afternoon of meetings with officials, it will conclude with an evening reception at ABA headquarters. The following morning, Amy Walter, national editor of the Cook Political Report and former political director of ABC News, will share her insights on the national political scene with Fly-In participants.

Uber Agrees To $225,000 Settlement In Discrimination Lawsuit

Uber has agreed to pay the National Federation of the Blind $225,000 over three years to settle a lawsuit alleging discrimination against blind riders, the company said April 29.

The settlement, which is still pending approval from a judge, also requires Uber to notify drivers they must provide transport to customers with service animals. Should a driver break that policy, Uber says it will deactivate their account. To ensure the settlement is being followed, the National Federation of the Blind will have blind customers take test rides.

The agreement will likely put an end to the suit, which has been unfolding since 2014, when the National Federation of the Blind first argued some Uber drivers’ refusal to accept riders with guide dogs was discriminatory.

Cadillac CT6 Puts Safety First

The Cadillac CT6 uses a driver’s seat vibration to warn drivers who are backing out of a parking space that they are at risk of coming into contact with another vehicle.

That’s just one of an arsenal of available safety features, including everything from pedestrian detection with auto braking to more cameras than MGM. Those cameras not only provide the driver a 360-degree view around CT6, they also, if the security system is triggered, can video-record that view when the CT6 is parked.

Lincoln Continental Uses Approach Detection Technology

DEARBORN, Mich. — The 2017 Lincoln Continental offers customers the additional luxury of a warm and inviting welcome with Lincoln’s signature Approach Detection technology.

Lincoln first unveiled its Approach Detection technology on the first-ever 2015 MKC. This technology enables the vehicle to sense when the driver, carrying the key fob, comes within a range of up to 8 feet welcoming them and indicating it is ready to go.

“The signature dynamic lighting of the Approach Detection feature is akin to the Continental greeting you with a warm smile,” said Solomon Song, Lincoln exterior design manager. “This is a subtle touch that reinforces our commitment to give every Lincoln client what we call quiet luxury – vehicles and experiences that are elegant, effortlessly powerful and serene.”

The Lincoln Approach Detection technology responds both inside and out:

 • Illuminated welcome mats project onto the ground beneath both front doors where the driver and front passenger will step as they approach so they can avoid stepping into a puddle or debris
 • The door-handles glow in a hue that complements the exterior color of the vehicle and highlights their location
 • Signature LED accent lights on the headlamps and tail-lamps add a sense of warmth, while ambient interior lights on the door panels, instrument panel and cupholders liven up the interior, without glare
 • A light softly pulses on the push-button start, signaling that Continental is ready to go

In addition, the available auto-folding pedestal side-view mirrors move into driving position after the driver enters the vehicle and closes the door.

Select, Reserve and Lincoln Black Label models of Continental have sequential exterior lighting, dynamically wrapping the car with illumination. Additionally, when the driver or passengers enter the vehicle, the ambient lighting activates in a sequence, enveloping the interior in a soft light to prepare or place any personal items before driving.

Lexani Reveals Cadillac Escalade “Sky Captain”

If the already luxurious Cadillac Escalade isn’t quite enough, California coachbuilder Lexani Motorcars has a new option: The piano-inspired Escalade Sky Captain.

Decked out in black and white inside, with hints of 24 carat gold trim, the Sky Captain is designed to evoke private air travel down to its deployable tray tables.

Two quilted leather-clad seats with integrated heating elements and a massaging feature await the SUV’s pampered rear occupants. A 48-inch curved Samsung screen allows the passengers to experience a home theater-grade movie experience (or at least really high quality video conferences).

Dr. Dre Commissions Custom Cadillac Escalade ESV

The ESV is the longer version of the Escalade, and if you were to purchase one in top spec with 4WD, you’d spend upwards of $95,945 on it before you’d even touch the options list. Fully loaded, it’ll cost you about $99,000 in Platinum trim.

Dr. Dre took the Escalade ESV and stretched it out even further, while making it taller, adding a custom strut grille and custom wheels. One source estimates the price tag at around $200,000. Allegedly, Dr. Dre is also looking for a chauffeur.
