Driving a car is one of the most personal – and dangerous – things we do. It’s understandable people are skeptical of handing over their keys to a faceless algorithm and sitting back for the ride. When you think of the word “algorithm,” you might picture a computer crunching numbers according to a formula or following a pre-programmed sequence of steps. But algorithms have come a long way in the last decade: they can take in data, learn, and generate more sophisticated versions of themselves. They can even drive a car.
