ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Got an idea for an article topic or just want to meet and chat with the LCT editors? You’ll have plenty of opportunities to do so at LCT-NLA Show East, held Nov. 13-15 at Harrah’s Atlantic City Resort and Waterfront Conference Center.

The first opportunity will be the Meet the LCT Editors Hour on Monday, Nov. 14 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m, in the Wildwood Lobby at the LCT Booth. At informal get-together, you’ll get to meet with Editor Martin Romjue, East Coast Editor Tom Halligan, Assistant Editor Lexi Tucker, and Contributing Editor Jim Luff one-on-one. Bring your ideas, pitches, and insights, and they’ll be all-ears.

Services Set for Industry Veteran John M. Greene

John M. “Johnny” Greene, age 57, died Saturday, Oct. 22, after he was struck by an SUV while walking on a highway in Falmouth, Mass., near the Cape Cod Fairgrounds.

A long-time industry veteran, Greene, of Scituate, Mass., formerly of Quincy, was the founder and president of ETS International in Randolph, Mass. He was the former owner of Custom Transportation Services, Inc. (CTS Worldwide).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, Oct. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Keohane Funeral Home: 785 Hancock St., Quincy, Mass. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 a.m. His burial will be held at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

“Johnny was an icon in the industry,” said his brother, Peter Greene,  ETS executive vice president of operations. “We worked together in the industry for going on 30 years. He was a fantastic brother, father, and friend to business associates. He would just light up a room when he walked in and was the life of the party. He was devoted to work, children, family, and our staff—many have been with us for more than 20 years. He will be sorely missed.”

Named among Inc. Magazine’s fastest growing companies, CTS was purchased in 1998 by Carey International, where Greene then served as an executive vice president. In 2003, he became a personal transportation industry consultant, working with several prominent international networks, assisting in mergers, acquisitions and business development. By 2006, Greene was ready to launch ETS International, with his brother, Peter, who serves as executive vice president of operations.

The Greene brothers are recipients of notable industry awards—including the LCT Operator of the Year Award in 2010 and 2014. “Johnny was a dear friend, former LCT columnist, and attended every single industry event. He will be greatly missed,” said LCT Publisher Sara Eastwood-Richardson.

According to his obituary: John’s loving family was the most important part of his life. He adored his three children and they, in turn, had the good grace to benefit from his larger-than-life personality. He was the owner/operator of ETS International Limousine Service and was very proud of the business he built. An active guy, he enjoyed boating, skiing, walks with his dog Jack, and attended countless Boston Bruins games.

Charity was close to his heart and he was always willing to help others, especially Cerebral Palsy of Mass. and The Lupus Foundation. He will be remembered for his positive attitude, upbeat energy, and his ability to light up a room. He was grateful for everything in his life which is summed up in a quote he used quite often: “You couldn’t give me three wishes, I wouldn’t know what to do with them.”

Beloved father of Ashley Greene of Boston, Cory Greene of Dorchester, and Kelsey Greene of Quincy. Former husband of Maureen Zerfoss of Scituate. Loving son of the late John J. Greene and Nancy J. (McQuade). Cherished brother of Kevin Greene of E. Bridgewater, Peter Greene of Whitman, Donna Hatfield of Braintree, and the late Stephen Greene. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA, 01701.

Charges Dropped Against Chauffeur In N.Y. Crash

All charges have been dropped against the chauffeur in the July 2015 crash that killed four women who were touring vineyards on Long Island to celebrate a birthday, a judge said Oct. 26.

Carlos Pino was indicted in March on four counts of criminally negligent homicide, four counts of assault, reckless driving and other crimes in the Cutchogue crash that killed Brittney Schulman, Lauren Baruch, Stephanie Belli and Amy Grabina. All of them were in their early 20s.

The four women were touring vineyards in a limousine to celebrate a friend’s birthday when Pino tried to make a U-turn on state Route 48 and was hit by a truck driven by an alleged drunk driver. Four other women, including a bride-to-be, and both drivers were hurt in the crash.

Business Travelers On The Move

Bigger travel budgets, a better economy, and the perception travel supports customer relationships will drive business travel in the next 12 months, according to a survey of business travelers conducted by marketing firm MMGY Global.

The most common reason business travel will increase, as noted by half the respondents, owed to their companies’ perception travel is important to grow and maintain customer relationships. 44% said their companies were doing better financially and had increased their travel budgets.

Australia’s chief geek, Simon Hackett, has already made companies like Internode happen. He’s also chairman of one of Australia’s most exciting energy startups, Redflow. And, being a big fan of Tesla, it’s no real surprise he’s just invested in Sydney-based Tesla chauffeur service Evoke.

Evoke offers point-to-point travel, airport transfers, and weddings service, with a fleet of Model S in Pearl White equipped with in-car Wi-Fi and an iPad for passengers to surf the ‘net or queue up some Spotify tracks. The car even has chargers for your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or Apple Watch.

Johnny Greene Killed in Traffic Accident

FALMOUTH, Mass. — Falmouth police have identified the pedestrian killed Oct. 22 near the Cape Cod Fairgrounds as John M. Greene, a 57-year-old Braintree resident.

Greene died after being struck by a westbound Lexus driven by a 69-year-old Falmouth woman along Route 151, police said in a statement. Rescuers were called around 6:50 p.m. to Cape Cod Church, 1205 Nathan Ellis Highway, after receiving several reports of a car hitting a pedestrian.

2015 Lincoln Navigator Packs Reliability, Easy Access To Cabin

Can we stop trying to pass off SUVs as luxury cars? That was my thought as I drove the 2015 Lincoln Navigator, noting the thin veneer of civility it washes over what is essentially a truck frame. It is, essentially, a Ford Expedition sporting a Lincoln-styled grille, leather seating and niceties such as automatically lowering running boards.

Cadillac Looks To Be First In Vehicle-To-Vehicle Communication

Speaking at a J.D. Power’s Automotive Marketing Roundtable on Tuesday night, Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen said that his company will be the first brand to bring vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology to production with its 2017 CTS mid-size sedan.

Whether Cadillac will be the first or not is up for debate. Mercedes-Benz has already revealed that its 2017 E-Class, too, will offer V2V communication. Regardless, the tech is the next significant step toward fully functional autonomous cars — no matter what brand is first. V2V works by connecting cars via Wi-Fi signals, allowing them to share information about location and speed, as well as other driving and safety data.

Any of those adjectives could easily describe the 2015 Ghost from Rolls Royce, a company that has defined itself as an automaker for the affluent.
